A Prayer for the 3,000 Palestinian-planted trees uprooted by Israeli settlers this week
Steadfast Sustainer —
We not only grieve the tearing up of physical roots
But the ripping apart of what those roots represent:
The hardy hope of a people,
carefully tended through generations,
now carelessly rended by ruthlessness.
May this symbolism not be lost,
May witnesses not be fooled,
May the story of the land not be silenced,
And may every empty, desecrated space
be refilled with solidarity.
Where beloved life has been sapped from the soil,
may courage and resolve be sown again,
Until new breath rises, resilient and unbowed,
flourishing even and especially where
hate tries its hardest to steal its spirit.
Amen
